A Tip for Success
For students who do not line up quietly outside, I had a "ticket line" where they were required to wait. The line was inside the room near the door. By keeping them in the room while the others lined up outside in the prescribed manner, I was able to maintain order of the loud and disorderly while protecting the students who were exercising control.
Within a day or two of having someone relegated to the line, I would return his train privileges. That's because students need to be given a chance to show they've learned a lesson and will henceforth demonstrate self-control.
However, loud again two days later?
"Back to the ticket line, buddy. You
must have thought I was kidding
about lining up outside quietly."
